We've done it again, seven years in a row for Bridgestone.
The market leading tyre company recognised around the world for its products and services.
While many of us have been at home these past few weeks, doing a combination of home workouts, attempting our hand at making sourdough, and home schooling or working from home (or juggling both!) – our vehicles may have been a little neglected.
But as we look forward to getting out and about more in the coming days or weeks, spare are a thought for your vehicle first.
When cars aren’t being used daily or sit dormant for longer than usual periods, some components get a bit too comfortable – meaning they need a little attention to perform at their peak. And with winter also around the corner, now is the perfect time to check over your car for the months ahead and get the all clear for both tyres and auto servicing.
When we’re not driving as often, tyres aren’t going through their usual heat cycles and even new tyres can lose a small amount of pressure. With a change of season coming, it’s also a time we should be checking our tread condition as well as our pressures.
Without the usual use, a small amount of surface rust can form on brake rotors – making for an unusual sound when braking. It can also change how your brake pedal feels and serve as a reminder that some maintenance may be needed.
Just like our waist belts get a bit loose (or sometimes a bit tight), the rubber belts in our engines can have similar issue. Without the usual running, drive belts, or timing belts, can stiffen up and make a squealing noise on startup, meaning they could need a tweak to make your engine run like a song again.
Wiper blade rubbers
Just like the rubber in the belts, our wipers can go stiff and become ineffective. It’s also one of those things that’s in the back of our mind until it rains, and then we forget about it until the next time we turn on our wipers. Replacing wiper blades is an easy way to improve visibility in wet conditions.
Even though the car may not have gone anywhere, there is still some systems in our car that draw a small amount of power and can drain the battery – leading to a headache when we go to start it up again. If your car sounds a little sluggish when you’re trying to start it, it could be that your battery is a bit down and you need to get some charge back in it, or it might be time to replace the battery.
Oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission oil and even petrol can be affected by sitting around and not circulating through their usual systems and filters on a regular basis. It’s a good idea to have a service before putting your car through its usual paces again.
So before the commute starts back up again, and the drop offs and pickups of Mum & Dad’s taxi Co. are back in full swing, why not show a bit of love to your car? Then you’ll be ready and raring to go when the road ahead opens up and road trips are back on the cards.
